If you've attended a convention, you'll recognize the below scenario:

 

Hundreds (maybe thousands) of people roaming around, digging into their bags to find the convention booklet to find out when and where a convention event is taking place; seminars, exhibitor parties, special events....etc.

 

Now let's look at an alternative scenario.

 

People are directed, upon entry to the convention and receipt of their credentials, to opt into the convention's messaging program. Prior to the start of an event, all attendees receive a message alerting them to that event. There's a big vendor presentation scheduled to begin. Again, attendees receive a message minutes prior to the start. A seminar has been cancelled, or rescheduled. Immediately inform all attendees of the change. There's maybe a golf outing. Attendees receive signup information on their cell phones, and later maybe their assigned tee times. No searching for that booklet and finding out they missed out on something. Signup into the convention mobile program could even be segregated by area of interest, using different keywords for the initial opt in.
